Toward inclusion of atmospheric effects in the aircraft community noise predictions

This paper presents an atmospheric propagation model, based on ray acoustics, that accounts for realistic weather conditions in the evaluation of noise footprint aircraft. Noise sources, obtained using Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings acoustic analogy applied to scale-resolved flow simulation data, are stored a hemisphere surrounding vehicle. These sources propagated model takes into account vertical variability air temperature wind velocity. The electric takeoff landing aircraft, presented by Casalino, van der Velden, Romani [(2019). Proceedings AIAA Scitech 2019 Forum, January 7–11, San Diego, CA, pp. 1834–1851], is used as case study; footprints, considering various vertically varying velocity distributions, compared. It shown wave can contribute mismatch up 4 dBA illuminated zone significant drop refractive shadow caused gradients. work constitutes first accomplishment including effects aircraft community prediction simulations.
